ABOUT OASIS RESCUE: OUR STORY
The story of Oasis Rescue shares its origins with the creation of the Kabul Beauty School. The school was set up in 2003 to teach Afghan women in Kabul the art of hairdressing, cosmetics and hair removal. The school has had a total of over 200 graduates who, through comprehensive training, were able to provide them and their families financial support, either as sole breadwinners of the family or to supplement their families’ meager earnings. Oasis Rescue was set up in 2005 to further the objectives first laid out by the Kabul Beauty School. It is a non-partisan, non-profit 501©3 organization established to educate and empower women, predominantly in Afghanistan, Iraq and other middle eastern countries, in the art and commerce of the beauty industry. The beauty of women is celebrated in poetry and song around the world. The global economics of the beauty industry is billions of dollars. The beauty industry provides economic security to millions of women and their families, and is considered by many cultures to be one of the most appropriate women-owned businesses. More and more women are interested in developing skills to provide economic security for themselves and their families. The beauty industry provided an enormous opportunity for women to generate significant income and participate in the economic development of their country. Beautician training offers an opportunity for literate, returning nationals; and refugees and rural women otherwise unable to receive training, to develop a saleable skill, participate in the economy of the country, provide economic support to their families, and replicate the training in other areas of their country. |
